Beloved Memorial Day Memories at Lake Calhoun

Lake Calhoun has a special place in our family history.

Our Lake Calhoun family pictures are displayed below.

Calhoun is where we always had our Memorial Day and
Fourth of July picnics in the early 60s. We always
stationed ourselves on the grass along the south
beach, near the giant twelve-trunk tree which dropped
its large pods on the ground.

Every year we spotted the man who ran all the way
around the lake - actually could see him running
even when he was on the far side of the lake.
He was an older man, and he ran in his swimming
trunks. It was an amazing novelty in those days.
He was the only one we'd ever seen running, let
alone such a great distance.
