Dearest Darling -

Dorothy is arriving in Portland Sunday. It was quite a shock to both Vernon and I, as Vernon hasn't got work as yet.
I finally have got a steady job in the Columbia Food Co store in Lents (Portland suburb). My wages are $18.00 per week.
Dorothy told Vernon that she would have $70.00 left when she gets here, out of what she got out of the furniture. But that's only a drop in the bucket, being Vernon isn't working.
But Darling, you can tell any of our friends, both yours and mine, that you have received a letter from me, where I am, that I have steady work clerking in a chain grocery store, and that you are coming out here in the near future, that is if you wish to tell them that you are coming out. By all means, tell your folks that you have heard from me and that Dorothy is coming out here to live with Vernon. Tell them that the reason Dorothy is coming out is because Vernon sent for her. Tell them that I told you about it in this letter. Neither your folks nor any of our friends need to know that we have been writing in the past.
I received your letter last Sat., Aug., 7, dated Aug. 4th. So you moved in with Jerry and Vera, hey! Well it looks to me like you're in for a lot of hard work with long hours now. Vera must be quite a ways along now with her buralen!
Thanks a million times Darling for presenting all your love to me when most girls would have failed to do so if they'd gone thru as much as you have since I left. I love you dearly for it!
Well it was 1:00 A.M. Mon. when we got back from the seaside. That's why you didn't hear from me Sunday nite. Last night I was so tired when I got home from work that I only wrote you a card, telling you that Dorothy was arriving Sun., before going to bed; and then today I forgot to mail the card.
They were practically all ready to leave when I got home from work Sat. nite and I only had moments to write you a few lines before pulling out for the beach. I had a swell time. When we got there it was all dark. Uncle Vern slept in the car while Aunt Lu, little Rowland, Vernon, and I all slept together under the star lit sky in the blankets. We got up at about 5:30 A.M. Sun. and ate our breakfast. Charlie Shaw and his wife Claude and their daughter "Hope" and Hope's friend Maxine arrived at the beach at 7:30 and joined us for the day. We fished "tom-cads" out of what they call the "Devil's Churn" practically all day. Right after our 12:00 dinner Charlie and I went back down to the Devil's Churn to fish while Uncle Vern took a nap and Vernon went swimming with Hope and Maxine. Charlie and I had fished for about an hour before Vernon and Uncle Vern joined us again. Within that hour we caught just 50 tom-cads between the two of us. All told during the day we caught over 300 fish amongst us. Some catch, hey?
Believe me Darling that this is just another place where we are going to spend some of our time when you get out here. I sure wish that it was you who is arriving in Portland Sunday, instead of Dorothy. Here, I'm the one who is footing the bills out here and it is Vernon who gets the break, as far as seeing his other half first, is concerned.
We got a letter from Mother today, and she said that Dorothy still does not know where we are. But that's what she thinks. She probably knows different by now though. I know damn well she's not going to like it because Vernon's not seeking divorce. But that's Vernon's business, not hers! Isn't that right, Dear?
Tickled to death that you can now tell your friends about our love. I am saying Goodnite my Love till the morrow.

              Love and Kisses
                From Your Hun
                    Irvin.
