One summer night while we still lived on Bronson Drive, Duane and I had been out somewhere.  I don't recall where, but could have been the bowling alley or the skating rink.  Or perhaps we were coming home from Don Piller's penthouse apartment in the center of his parents' trailer park.   Nonetheless, we did not feel like having to walk around the east end of Spring Lake.

There was a boat at the home at the end of Spring Lake Road before it curved around the east end of the lake.   I believe there was a motor on the boat, but that of course would have made too much noise.  So we eased the boat into the water and used the oars that they so nicely "made available" to us.  We made our way across the lake and secured the boat on shore so the owners could easily see it from their shore and retrieve it.   After all, we were just borrowing it, not stealing it.   Then we walked home from there.

That went so well that returning home another night we decided we would borrow the boat again.   The home owners obviously were being vigilant about keeping an eye out for the "robbers".   We were probably not even half-way across the lake when spotlights were scanning the water.  The homeowners had called the police and they were looking for us. The spotlights kept coming dangerously close to us but somehow we escaped detection.   We hit shore, secured the boat on ground and took off running, staying off the road in case the police were still looking for us.

I don't remember if we did that again.  If we did, we did not get caught.  Duane might remember.
