                                Crookston, Minn
                                Monday morning

Dear Irvin,
I wish you could see Donald now. He's laying here singing out of a book, pretending he can see. Oppegard is going to take the bandage off his right eye today. He didn't say anything about the other one yet. The nurse just asked Donald if he wanted a bath & he says, sure.
It's certainly cold today. I'm glad I brought my skirt & sweater, as they have no heat here today.
Mrs. Hensel from Bemidji went home from here last Saturday. She had an operation. She is married to Mrs. Willet's brother I guess. Mrs. Willet was along when they came & got her & she came in & seen me. Was rather surprised to see anyone come walking in here from Bemidji. She had seen it in the paper, so she knew I was here.
Donald doesn't want the doctor to take off the bandage. When he changed it the other day, it hurt when he pulled the tape off, so he wants to leave it on. Since that day he's cried a little when either of the doctors come to see him. He's afraid they're going to pull it off. So I suppose it will be quite a scrap again this morning. Donald doesn't seem to mind it a bit to lay in bed & have his eyes covered. He can find more ways to entertain himself. I wish I could. I'm getting so tired of sitting here that sometimes I wish I was in Donald's place. At least I could lay in bed.
Well the doctor was here & Donald is using his right eye now. He cried a little. Donald & I can leave the hospital today if I can get a room. So I'll be here 12 days. I'll go & see about it this noon so I can let you know where to come & see me.
Well I think I'll start packing before they come with his tray.

                          Love
                              Elsie

I was just over to this house by the clinic & I won't know until 4 this afternoon if I can have a room. If I can't get one there I don't know what I'll do.
I don't think it's much use you driving way over here to see us because I think Donald will have his left eye covered the rest of the time we're here. And the doctor said he'd take the stitches out the 10th day. And I should be able to go home right after that, which won't be so many more days.
I'll drop you a card tonight too & let you know if I got a room.
