                          July 23 9 PM Mon.

My Dear Darling Elsie,
I'm just writing a short letter to tell you I love you and then I'm going to bed as I'm really tired.
I did not leave the plant till close to 7 o'clock though I was thru work at 6:30, but then it's wash up and then check up on the molds etc before I leave. I ate supper at the cafeteria at 7:25, (they close at 7:30) in my work clothes before I ate supper. Then when I had changed clothes I went downtown to see if I could get some more work clothes. I am out of clean work clothes due to the fact my laundry isn't back, and won't be till the last of this week. I got one pair of army summer pants, 2 pr shorts and 2 pr of army socks at the American Army & Navy Store. I paid them by check ($5.30). I cashed my personal check at Robinson's this morning for $10 for my eats. On my way back from the Army and Navy store I was hankering for a beer and stopped at a bar at the corner of Hennepin and 9th St, just a block from the "Y", and had 2 bottles of Hamm's beer. It was a nice clean respectable place. In there I met a fellow by the name of Luke Andrews who is 72 years old and knows Pete Peterson at Bemidji. I listened to him all the while I drank my beer. He told me all about a son of his who is an iron mine engineer on the iron range. I believe you and I would really like to spend a little time in this place if we can get someone to look after the kiddies for us. They charge 20 cents for beer and 15 cents for strong Grain Belt and this Luke Andrews says they get 30 cents and up for shots & high balls. There are no bums or roughnecks in there yet it's not such a high class place, yet it is rather a pleasing place that we would like. The bar room itself is quite fancy. Well so much for that.
I was hoping I'd get a letter from you today but then I hardly expected one as you did not say anything on the phone about sending me one recently. But it would really cheer me up a lot to hear from you more often, even if it's only a card. Of course I do like letters better. I guess that's why I send letters instead of cards.    Robinson is having one heck of a time getting air and steam bags. We haven't a one for curing 825 X 20 tires, and we have so doggone many 825 X 20 government combat tires stacked up in the plant and so this morning I had Leo start curing 825s with #42 and #32 bags wrapped in a ten ply boot so we could fill the orders. #42 & #32 bags are for 750 X 20 tires. I wonder what Ralph will say when he sees on the work sheets that quite a number of 825s were cured today. He's really been quite worried about that size in the government tires.
Well really, I am tired and I must go to bed. I believe what wears me out the most is the extreme heat in the plant. At 2 PM this afternoon it was 115 F. My clothes just simply got soaked, and when they get wet like that, of course they get plenty dirty.
Right now there is a swell breeze coming in this window right in front of me at this writing table. I undressed before I started writing this which leaves me in just my shorts.
Well at last I am going to bed. Goodnight my Sweet heart and I'll be seeing you soon, I hope, I hope.

                   Oceans of Love & Kisses
                   Hubby Irvin
My kiss to you --> X
