Animal slaughter

I was essentially vegetarian the first half of my adult life; then ate a lot of beef and chicken for a similar time span. I've recently again become mostly vegetarian.

There's a lot to consider.

One dairy cow provides us with 21 times as much protein as a beef cow, per life of the cow. Yogurt and cottage cheese are good for us; and we don't need a massive amount of either.

Over 20 million farm animals die each year in the United States from heat stress, freezing or trauma during transport from farms to slaughterhouses.

Slaughtering rules are weak and mostly unenforced. Pigs and hogs, especially, suffer terribly. Horrific screaming deaths even as they seek affection from their killers. See: HFA.htm. Research it and you will be devastated.

Fishing -- commercial and otherwise -- entails every bit as much -- or more -- suffering. Can we leave the fish be?

Well-cared-for cattle or chicken -- right up to the point of euthanasia -- are a better option for meat, as well as for milk products and eggs.

One chicken provides us with 10 times as much protein in the form of eggs than does meat from a chicken.

The diabetes menu is excellent for everyone. A modest amount of meat or yogurt, beans, walnuts and other nuts, seeds, some whole grains, lots of non-starchy vegetables, and a modest amount of fruit.

We should not be using mice or any animal for testing drugs. It is sinful. If a person wishes to volunteer themselves for experimental drugs, they should be free to do so. Mice and other animals do not volunteer for experimental drugs.
