                         Sunday Aug 30th 10:30 PM

My Dear Darling,
I'll bet money that you did not believe Harriet at first when she told you that I did not come out to see you. Well I had every intention of going until Bud finally convinced me that he just simply could not get a man to run the station for him today and that he needed me badly. Then I decided that if Clarence & Harriet or somebody would go even if I did not go, you would have company anyway and I could sure use 2 or 3 extra dollars besides. I don't know how much he is going to pay me.
Well Darling, I hear that you are coming along just fine. Harriet said that you had not heard from me for the last couple days. In other words, I guess I just wasted my gas & time when I took my letter down to the depot late Fri nite so as to make sure that you would get it Saturday. It must be laying in a depot, or post office some place, or maybe in the hospital's office.
I sold Mrs. Barnes 3/4 of a bushel of tomatoes yesterday for $1.75. That's a good price & I should not have charged her that much, because Buel has treated us well, and only the other day Mrs Barnes gave me dinner. I did not think of these things until after I collected for it. I think we better give her some beets for pickling to sort of square things up, don't you think so. We have got lots of beets anyway. I have an order for a half of a bushel tomatoes to be delivered up on Minnesota Ave. Tues for 1.00 (2.00 per bu). Daylight Groc. wants 1 peck of pickling cukes Tues. That will be another 25 cents. Mrs Boots, member of our church, wants half a bushel cukes tomorrow (50 cents). Looks like we are finally getting into the vegetable business, hey, Darling. I still have lots of tomoatoes. Shall I have someone can a few for us? By the way, I am NOT canning tomatoes. 1st, I haven't time, 2nd, I'd have an awful time trying to can, and thirdly, it would just be a flop.
Well it was 10 o'clock when I got back from taking Clar & Harriet and my washing out to your folks. It's 10:30 now and I go to work at 2 AM so I better grab a little shut eye while I still have a chance, Darling. Be a good girl and I hope you can come home this week, but I do have my doubts. But give the signal, Honey, whether it's just a visit or if it's that you really are coming home, at last.

         Well good nite Darling
